 Misha | Hedge Witch

Misha is a young witch living in the forest next to the small town of Flatroot, Washington. She is a pragmatic, perceptive, and intelligent young witch. Her gifted mind, and her unconventional approaches, have helped her out of many dangerous situations.

Misha spends her days studying witchcraft with the numerous tomes and texts left by her late mentor, Elizabeth. At night, she patrols the forest to protect the area from hostile monsters and supernatural entities. Misha’s familiar, Butters, can always be found close by her side.

Adam | Local High-School Senior | Wildlife Enthusiast

Adam and his family moved to the town of Flatroot six years ago, due to his father’s job. Adam is a reserved, introverted young man with an immense passion for animals and natural history. In his free time, Adam likes to hang out with his friends, volunteer at the local animal shelter, or go on walks in the forest to sketch/take notes on the local wildlife.

Adam lives with his mom (Celine), his dad (Andy), and his younger brother (Jason).

Butters | Misha’s Familiar | Species: Russet Snatcher Owl

Butters and Misha encountered each other when they were both 4 years old and have been by each other’s side since. He is a very greedy, food-motivated, and mischievous familiar. Butters loved to steal collect trinkets and shiny rocks from wherever he could, then bring them back to his roost in the cottage. Unbeknownst to Misha, Butters has dug out a secret nook of the cottage kitchen where he hides snacks. He is “basically a raccoon cosplaying as an owl”, according to Adam.

Despite his goblin-esque personality, Butters is extremely loyal and protective of his witch. He will do anything to make sure Misha is safe.

Elena | Gamer Potato | Pastry Devourer

Elena is Adam’s closest friend and worst enemy. She is a loud nerd who cares deeply about her friends and is the heart of Adam’s friend group. Elena quickly adopted the introvert Adam into her friend group after his family moved into town during middle school and the two have been friends ever since.

Aria | Computer Science Nerd | Tech Geek

Aria is Elena’s childhood friend and one of Adam’s first friends when he moved to Flatroot. She is incredibly intelligent and tech-savvy. She is always carrying around her custom-built laptop and loves going to bookstores with Elena. She dreams of leaving her small hometown and living her life in the city, far away from her overbearing father.

Nick | Slugger | Sweaty Gamer

Nick is one of Adam’s friends and Elena’s boyfriend. He’s very competitive when it comes to any kind of game but, outside that headspace, he’s pretty mellow. Although he prefers to talk things out, he isn’t a stranger to getting physical if things get out of hand. His trusty baseball bat is great at cracking monster skulls.

Carlos | City Boy | Snack Fiend

Carlos and his family moved to Flatroot from California at the start of his high school year. During his freshman year, he shared a few classes with Adam and Elena. The three became fast friends and Carlos completed the quintet shortly after. Sociable and easy to talk to, Carlos is the group’s bard and snack dealer. He and Adam share a love for food and like making new recipes they find online.

The ‘Creature’

There is a rumor that the forest is cursed. Over the decades, there have been several incidents in which people go hiking deep into the forest and never return. Some speculate that there is a serial killer hiding out deep in the forest. Others say that it is a vengeful old forest deity, taking away anyone who defiles its sacred ground. All that is known is that not a single trace of those who go missing is ever found.

Tabitha | The Cursed Box Witch

In 18th century Europe, towards the end of the infamous Witch Hunts, Tabitha was found guilty of witchcraft and sentenced to death. However, even after she was beheaded, she continued to live through an unknown dark magic and was quickly sealed in an iron box. A few hundred years and a long list of dead collectors later, the cursed box found its way to across the United States.

The iron box now sits in a dark corner of the Flatroot Museum of Curiosities. Quietly awaiting for another poor soul to open it again…

Arthur Minkah Laurent | Witch Hunter | SHS Contractor

Arthur is a seasoned Contractor of the SHS (Supernatural Hunter Syndicate) - UK branch. Straightforward and professional, he is a model hunter with an astonishing rescue record.

Arthur has traveled to the United States of America to help some relatives in Louisiana deal with a pack of Rougarou. When the assault goes wrong, Arthur makes a pact with a lone Witch Inquisitor to save his family. In exchange for her help, the Inquisitor recruits Arthur to aid her in a witch-hunt of her own…

Rashida | Inquisitor of the Mother’s Coven

Rashida is an Execution Inquisitor of the Mother’s Coven, an inquisitor who specializes in hunting down heretical witches. Jealous of her growing potential, Rashida’s superiors sent her to hunt down and execute the Blood Kraken Witch.

In order to survive this hunt, Rashida makes a pact with a seasoned Witch Hunter to aid her in her hunt.

Elizabeth’s Cottage

Decades before Elizabeth met Misha, she had built herself a witch’s cottage to allow travel without leaving home. Magical legs made of stone and roots, hidden underneath the cottage, allow it to walk in any direction its owner commands. A special charm hidden in the cottage gives it its own gravity, ensuring anything on the balcony and interior of the cottage remains in place as it moves.

The cottage is perfectly capable of operating on its own if the owner is sleeping or otherwise incapacitated. It will even attack those that threaten its owner and/or guests. The cottage will not listen to anyone who isn’t its owner. Although magical structures aren’t sentient, Misha and Elizabeth have both noticed that the cottage seems to have some sort of personality.

Before Elizabeth passed, she granted Misha ownership of the cottage and the right to all of her belongings.

Aliya | Root Witch

Aliya is a Root Witch and Misha’s second eldest coven sister.

Aliya is not as gifted in witchcraft as Misha, nor as charismatic as Zornitsa. However, she makes up for it with her intellect and sheer cunning. Most of the inquisitors she’s hunted never had a chance to fight back. Their mangled, rotting bodies are often found skewered by roots and branches.

Zornitsa | The Dawnstar Witch

Zornitsa is an Astral Witch and Misha’s eldest coven sister.

A charismatic, natural-born leader, Zornitsa founded and led the rebel witch group called Fiachne’s Blade against the Mother’s Coven. She uses her abilities in divination and star reading to lead her forces to victory. After the Battle of Red Coast, her followers named her The Dawnstar Witch. It’s widely believed amongst her forces that Zornitsa is the prophesied hero who will lead the witches into a “new dawn”.

Through her divinations, Zornitsa learns that Aliya and Misha survived the Night of Black Blood and that both are still alive. However, no matter how hard she tries, her magic can’t locate them. It’s almost as if they don’t exist.

Phelan and Tana | The Shepards

On the Night of Black Blood, the Sorchae Coven was erased by the Inquisitors. Phelan and Tana were left as the coven’s sole survivors. Nowadays, they travel in a magic camper van; escorting other survivors of the Night of Black Blood to safe houses and protecting them from the Inquisitors.
One night, Tana receives an unsettling premonition, and the two head for the sleepy little town of Flatroot.
